What to Expect: Initiation Packages for New Patients

At Neuronutrition Associates, new patients start with a package plan to ensure a comprehensive review of health needs. Each package includes at least 3 provider visits and 2 health coaching sessions, allowing us to fully understand and address each patient’s unique wellness goals.

Whether your family is seeking solutions for specific symptoms, managing a diagnosis, or proactively enhancing wellness, our functional medicine consultations aim to uncover root causes and support sustainable lifestyle changes for long-term health. Our individualized, family-centered approach empowers each member to thrive, fostering a foundation of lasting, positive health habits.

What are some of the typical conditions we see?

  • Chronic Fatigue or Low Vitality
  • Depression, Anxiety, OCD
  • Autoimmune Conditions
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Chronic Constipation
  • Hormone Imbalances
  • Overweight or Obesity
  • Mold and Environmental Toxicity
  • Autism and Developmental Delay
  • Eczema and Other Chronic Skin Issues
  • Food and Environmental Allergies
  • Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS)
  • And More!

Our team is dedicated to addressing a broad range of health concerns with a personalized, root-cause approach.

Step One: Patient and Family Medical History

After scheduling your appointment, you’ll complete intake forms, covering key aspects of health history, including diet, environment, medical background, medications, and family history. This comprehensive information enables us to understand each person’s health needs prior to your first visit, allowing us to make the most of our time together.

Step Two: Initial Consultation (first visit with provider)

During your initial visit, we spend time thoroughly discussing a patients history, symptoms, and health concerns to individualize a targeted approach. This visit may include immediate recommendations for dietary, lifestyle, and nutritional modifications tailored to each person’s needs. When appropriate, we may suggest functional lab tests for specific insights, such as evaluating gut health, genetics, nutritional status, or toxin exposure. These labs are optional but can provide valuable data for a personalized treatment plan.

Step Three: Health Coaching (first health coach visit)

Following the initial visit and provider consultation, we recommend a health coaching session to further support you. In this session, you’ll work closely with a certified health coach to review and refine any additional lifestyle or nutritional recommendations made by the provider. This coaching session also offers an opportunity to discuss the specifics of lab collections, including preparation, scheduling, and understanding the purpose behind each test. Your health coach will provide guidance on implementing the plan of care, answer any questions, and equip you with practical solutions.

Step Four: Analysis Review (second provider visit)

We typically meet again 4-6 weeks after the initial consultation to review lab results, refine treatment recommendations, and plan next steps. This follow-up can be conducted in person or via Zoom, allowing us to share our screen to walk you through the results. During this visit, your provider will work closely with you to create a comprehensive care plan, which may include a therapeutic diet, necessary medications, nutritional supplements, lifestyle recommendations, and other integrative therapies that aim at restoring wellness.

Step Five: Health Coaching (second health coaching visit)

In this health coaching session, you’ll review your provider’s detailed care plan, covering the timing and implementation of recommended therapies, where to obtain medications or supplements, and any questions that have come up since your last visit. The health coach will also address any specific guidance your provider has recommended, ensuring you have a clear plan moving forward. Together, you’ll confirm the timing for any repeat testing and schedule your next follow-up visit to keep your wellness journey on track.

Step Six: Completion of Package - Final Provider Visit

In this final visit of your initial package, your provider will review any repeat lab results, assess the effectiveness of the current plan, discuss any challenges or roadblocks you’ve encountered, and work with you to find solutions. Together, you’ll create recommendations for the best path forward to support continued wellness.

Step Seven: Ongoing support

After completing the initial package, each patient’s follow-up needs vary. Some may only require annual check-ins, while those with more complex chronic conditions benefit from regular, ongoing support. Once a balanced wellness state is reached, we recommend annual visits to monitor and adjust health plans as needed. For children, these visits allow us to adapt their wellness plans as they grow, and for adults, they offer an opportunity to stay aligned with health goals. Patients needing more frequent follow-ups are welcome to schedule visits at the provider’s hourly rate. At every stage of life, we’re here to provide continuous, personalized support to keep your family’s health on track.

We address a broad range of health concerns using a personalized, root-cause approach. Common conditions we see include:

  • Chronic Fatigue or Low Vitality
  • Depression, Anxiety, and OCD
  • Autoimmune Conditions
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Chronic Constipation
  • Hormone Imbalances
  • Overweight or Obesity
  • Mold and Environmental Toxicity

What is a “package plan,” and why do new patients start with one?

New patients begin with an initiation package to ensure a thorough review of their health. This package includes at least three hourly provider visits and two 45-minute health coaching sessions. This structured approach gives us the time to thoroughly understand your history, review any lab work, and build a personalized plan that addresses the root causes of your health concerns, setting you up for long-term success.

What does the new patient process look like step-by-step?

Your journey with us is designed to be thorough and supportive:

  • Intake: You’ll complete comprehensive health history forms.
  • Initial Consult: Meet with your provider to discuss your history, symptoms, and goals.
  • Health Coaching: Work with a coach to implement initial recommendations and prepare for any lab testing.
  • Analysis Review: Meet with your provider (4-6 weeks later) to review lab results and build a detailed care plan.
  • Health Coaching: Your coach helps you implement the detailed plan, covering timing, resources, and next steps.
  • Final Package Visit: Review progress with your provider, assess the plan’s effectiveness, and determine the best path forward.
  • Ongoing Support: Continue with annual check-ins or more frequent support as needed. Once your initiation package is complete, it does not need to be repurchased. However, if it has been more than three years since your last visit, we will need to re-establish care through a new initiation package.

Do you accept insurance?

We are not in-network with any insurance providers. However, we can provide you with the necessary billing documentation (a superbill) to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that while our consultation fees are not covered, some standard lab work may be covered by your plan, whereas specialized functional labs may not be, depending on your specific out-of-network benefits.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept personal checks, money orders, major credit cards, and Health Spending Account (HSA) cards for your convenience.

I’ve already had lab work done. Do I need to repeat it?

Not necessarily! Please provide us with copies of any relevant lab work completed within the past 12 months. This helps us avoid unnecessary duplication and allows us to review your historical data as we build your personalized health plan.

Do both parents need to attend appointments for their child?

While not strictly required, it is strongly advised that both caregivers attend all initial and subsequent consultations whenever feasible. The active participation of all caregivers is associated with improved continuity of care and patient outcomes. Please be advised that, in accordance with applicable consent requirements, authorization from the child is required. While not strictly required, we strongly recommend that both caregivers attend initial and follow-up consultations whenever possible. Active involvement from all caregivers significantly improves patient outcomes. Please be advised that, in accordance with applicable consent requirements, authorization from the child’s sole legal guardian or from both legal guardians is required before the initiation of treatment.

Do I need a formal diagnosis to become a patient?

No, a formal diagnosis is not required. We treat patients at all stages of their health journey, whether you have an existing diagnosis, are managing an ongoing condition, or are simply seeking preventive wellness support. Our licensed providers can also offer a diagnosis when it is necessary for specific therapies, like occupational or speech therapy.

What is a health coach, and why is coaching part of the package?

A health coach is a supportive guide who helps you bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it. They are an integral part of your care team, empowering you to implement the nutrition and lifestyle recommendations from your provider, navigate lab work, and make positive, lasting changes on your path to wellness.

What is the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS)?

MAPS is a prestigious organization that provides specialized education and fellowship for healthcare professionals dedicated to caring for children with autism spectrum disorders and related conditions. Our practitioners utilize this gold-standard training to enhance the care we provide, focusing on comprehensive approaches to nutrition, immune function, and metabolic health.

What types of appointments are available (in-person or virtual)?

We offer both in-person and telemedicine visits to accommodate your needs and schedule. Follow-up visits, including lab reviews, are often conducted via Zoom so we can easily share our screen and walk you through your results.

Is your office easily accessible?

Our office is located on the second floor of a building that does not currently have elevator access. We understand this can be a challenge and are happy to arrange additional accommodations, such as a virtual visit, to meet the needs of patients requiring wheelchair access.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that unexpected events come up. However, to respect the time of our providers and other patients, we require a 48-hour notice for any cancellations. Please note that our business hours for cancellations are Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Late cancellations or no-shows will incur a charge, as outlined in the paperwork provided at the start of your care.

Do you offer specialized lab testing that a regular doctor doesn’t?

Absolutely. While we review standard blood work, we often dive deeper using advanced functional medicine testing to uncover root causes. Depending on your symptoms, we may recommend IntellxxDNA genetic testing to uncover hereditary factors influencing your health. These tests provide the roadmap we need to build a truly personalized plan.

Will I have to follow a specific diet?

Nutrition is at the heart of everything we do. Rather than prescribing a one-size-fits-all diet, we tailor your nutritional approach to your unique health needs and lab results. This may include therapeutic protocols like an anti-inflammatory diet, a Low FODMAP diet for IBS, or an elimination diet to identify food sensitivities. Your health coach will guide you through every step, making the process manageable and sustainable.

Can nutrition really help with brain-based conditions like brain fog or ADHD?

Yes, this is the core of what we do as a neuronutrition practice. The brain and gut are deeply connected, and optimizing nutrition can have a profound impact on cognitive function, focus, and mood. We commonly work with patients struggling with brain fog, memory concerns, ADHD, and neurological symptoms, using a root-cause approach to support cognitive health and improve quality of life.

At Neuronutrition Associates, we use the IntellxxDNA™ Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tool to provide patients with advanced genomic insights that surpass what Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) tests offer. While DTC tests help with ancestry and general health awareness, IntellxxDNA™ is designed specifically for clinical use, delivering precise, actionable information focused on chronic illness prevention and brain health optimization. Alpha-Stim Therapy

At Neuronutrition Associates, we offer Alpha-Stim therapy, an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment to alleviate anxiety, insomnia, depression, and pain. Alpha-Stim works by delivering low-level electrical currents through earclip electrodes, modulating brain activity to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and restore balance.

This safe, drug-free therapy aligns with our holistic approach and can be used during clinic visits or at home. For convenience, we offer rental and purchase options for patients who wish to incorporate Alpha-Stim into their daily wellness routines. Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDI)

Low Dose Immunotherapy is an innovative treatment designed to balance the immune response, offering relief for conditions like autoimmunity, PANS/PANDAS, Lyme disease, chronic infections, eczema, and severe allergies. Instead of relying on lifelong avoidance, allergy shots, or medications, LDI works by restoring normal immune function through a root-cause approach.

LDI gently retrains the immune system to respond “just right,” neither overreacting nor underreacting. It involves exposure to extremely low doses of antigens (like foods, environmental allergens, or pathogens) to help the immune system build tolerance. Doses are given under the tongue every 7-8 weeks, tailored to each patient’s needs, leading to a noticeable improvement in symptoms.

Conditions LDI Can Help Treat:

  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Lyme and tick-borne illnesses
  • PANS/PANDAS
  • Eczema
  • Severe environmental allergies
  • Extensive food sensitivities

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

Neuronutrition Associates is pleased to offer Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) through our partnership with Allergy Choices. SLIT is a safe, effective treatment for patients with allergies who prefer an alternative to injections. This therapy involves placing small doses of allergens under the tongue, helping to desensitize the immune system over time and reduce allergic reactions.

SLIT targets a wide range of allergens, including environmental triggers like pollen, dust, and pet dander, as well as food allergens, making it ideal for both children and adults. This therapy is easy to use at home, empowering patients to integrate allergy treatment into their daily routine conveniently. By gradually building tolerance to allergens, SLIT provides a proactive, long-term approach to allergy relief that aligns with our functional medicine philosophy.

Our team will work with you to create a customized SLIT treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, with support and guidance throughout the process. Whether managing seasonal allergies or food sensitivities, SLIT offers an effective, patient-centered solution for allergy relief.

Peptide Therapy

Peptide therapy is emerging as a powerful tool for health optimization, supporting the body’s natural repair mechanisms with fewer side effects than conventional medications. Peptides, short chains of amino acids that act as signaling agents, can influence immune health, metabolism, energy, cognitive function, healing, and more.

Some peptides, like semaglutide and tirzepatide, have FDA approval and are available by prescription, while others are over-the-counter. However, availability can shift as regulations change. Patients receiving peptide therapy at our practice will be informed about their use, including any off-label applications.

How Peptide Therapy Works

As we age, the body’s natural peptide production declines, affecting energy, metabolism, and other functions. Peptide therapy boosts specific peptides, such as Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH), to stimulate growth hormone production, which may enhance energy, fat burning, libido, and immune function.

Conditions Benefiting from Peptide Therapy:

  • Anti-aging and energy support
  • Autoimmunity and inflammation
  • Chronic fatigue and insomnia
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Sexual health and mood enhancement
  • Neurodegenerative support (e.g., Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s)
  • Weight management
  • Wound healing and digestive health

Peptide therapy can help address a variety of health challenges, enabling patients to feel and function at their best.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Neuronutrition Associates, a trusted retailer for Summit to Sea, offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to support healing and wellness. This therapy involves breathing concentrated oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing oxygen to reach both red blood cells and plasma. The increased oxygen flow stimulates new tissue growth, stem cell activation, and blood vessel development, promoting faster healing, enhanced immune function, and anti-inflammatory effects throughout the body. We partner with Summit to Sea for their chambers’ ease of use, making entry and exit simple and accessible—an essential feature often lacking in other systems.
